A pileup in Georgia involving 27 vehicles has killed three people and sent at least nine more to the hospital, The Associated Press reports. Cars, trucks, and tractor-trailers were all involved in the chain-reaction wreck, which took place on a foggy highway this morning.
While it is unclear what caused the initial crash that started the pileup, poor visibility is believed to have been a contributing factor. An empty fuel tanker involved in the wreck reportedly exploded after being hit by an 18-wheeler, adding to the destruction. The highway was shut down in both directions for several hours, and work crews were still clearing the wreckage this afternoon.
