VANDALIA – Services for Fredrick Lee Kohl, 73, of Vandalia will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church with Reverends Bob Hoehn and Paul Catterton officiating. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery with military honors provided by Laddonia American Legion Post 510.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. at the Vandalia United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Bienhoff Funeral Home.
Mr. Kohl passed away Sunday February 3, 2013 at The Villages Regional Hospital in The Villages, Florida.
He was born May 14, 1939 in Vandalia, the son of John W. and Julia Branstetter Kohl.
He was married to Ann Margaret Mottaz on Novembr 27, 1958 in Vandalia and she survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters and their spouses, Lisa and Rich Lovell of Vandalia, and Kathy and Bryan Drew of Buffalo, NY; two brothers and their spouses, L.E. and Rowena Kohl and Bill and Carol Kohl, all of Vandalia; three grandchildren, Lindsey Yancey, Savannah, and Hunter Drew; and two great grandchildren, Jude and Myles Yancey.
Mr. Kohl was a lifetime area resident and farmer. He raised various crops including corn, soybeans, popcorn and wheat. He was the owner of Kohl Irrigation which specialized in Valley Center Pivot Irrigation systems. He was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church, the Vandalia Masonic Lodge #491, and the Vandalia Rotary Club. He was selected to serve as a member of the Rotary International Group Study Exchange Team to New Zealand in 1974.
Fred served his country with honor and distinction as a U.S. Marine from 1956 to 1958. He and his wife Ann enjoyed spending the winters at The Villages in Florida after becoming snowbirds in 2008. His greatest joy was Ann, his wife of 55 years, his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting with friends and other family members and playing golf.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vandalia United Methodist Church or the Wounded Warriors Project.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Drew, Johnny Kohl, Steve Kohl, Mark Kohl, Chris Kohl, Ronnie Crump, and Bob Kohl.
