The Mexico Bulldogs traveled to Kirksville to take on the Tigers in an NCMC game in front of a large crowd of Tiger hopefuls. The Bulldogs got off to a great start and led by 9 at the end of the first quarter and 17 points at the half. The Bulldogs continued to build the lead in the third quarter and led by well over 30 points late in the game to post their 18th victory of the season 65-38. The win improves the Bulldogs 18-3 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in the NCMC.
Coach Brennan Scanlon was pleased with the effort of his team as they executed against a variety of defenses. LADY BULLDOGS: The final score of the Lady Bulldogs and Kirksville Lady Tigers was no indication of how this game played out.
"We started out aggressive and focused knowing going on the road to Kirksville would be a challenge. We took a 7-2 lead and Kirksville bounced back taking the lead at the end of the first quarter," said MHS coach Ed Costley. The girls stayed aggressive and never gave in after a double digit deficit. Mexico was able to cut the lead to 7 midway through the fourth but Kirksville's size down low was too much for the Lady Bulldogs in their rotation out of traps.
"Ali Mudd and Karen Baker hit some big shots for us in the game. Cassie Schmidt played some strong minutes for us down low coming off the bench," said Costley.
Brooke Costley led the team with 16 points. Anne Baker brought down 5 rebounds to lead the team. Costley, Kelli Ingrum and Anne Baker had 3 steals each.
