"The McMillan High School debating squad will have a biangular debate with Boonville High School sometime in March. On the same night one team from each school will debate in Mexico and Boonville with different sides of the same question. On April 11, the McMillan squad will have a joint debate with Marshall High School."

"Plez Lewis & Sons., Inc., contractor for the public housing projects of the Mexico Housing Authority, has been sued for breach of contract, and damages totaling $40,933.35. George Lotspeich Construction Co., the sub-contractor for excavation and concrete work, accused the Lewis company of breaching the contract by delays and failure to provide property management, orders, removal of gas and water lines which resulted in costly delays and additional expense to Lotspeich. Lotspeich, represented by William Bryan Miller of Kansas City, says in the suit that Lewis owes $10,812 on the contract and he asks damages in the amount of $27,055, which includes $6,500 for expenses and losses."

"It may not have been a record for all time, but this morning's official low temperature of 19 degrees below zero certainly gets the vote as coldest in 70 years. Records dating from 1918 show only three years on this date that the mercury dipped below zero – it was 10 below in 1944, 2 below in 1936 and 1985. While the mercury was struggling to get up to the zero mark this morning and some drivers were still working to get their cold vehicles started, the sun which had only peeked out earlier moved behind a cloud and big flakes of that cold white stuff came rushing down."
