Westran varsity girls yielded six unanswered points during the last minute of the first half allowing Fayette to trim its deficit to 18-15 by intermission. The lady Falcons continued that spurt when they netted the first five points of the second and went on to defeat Westran by a 42-35 score at home in Lewis & Clark Conference play.
“We were playing pretty well in the first half and had an 18-9 lead on them when they hit a 3, stole the ensuing in bounds pass that we made and ended up scoring making it a 3-point play out of it right before halftime arrived,” said Westran girls coach Gary Dresback. “They had all the momentum going in to halftime and continued with it right after we returned. They quickly got about a 6-point lead on us then we seemed to trade baskets back and forth from there on.”
Camryn Hunt scored 10 points in a losing effort for Westran (1-23, 0-10 LCC) to wrap up its regular season. Kylie Linneman added nine points and Mackenzie Hombs had eight.
Fayette girls finished its regular season at 6-18 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
In the boys game, the Falcons of Fayette defeated Westran 57-51.
No boys’ game results were reported.
Westran boys record dropped to 7-17 for the season and 4-6 in the LCC.
Fayette (16-9) took second place in the conference with a record of 8-2.
