  • The William's Family Support Center is currently taking reservations for its 11th annual 100 Man Luncheon, scheduled March 7, starting at 11 a.m. at the center.
Community leaders and other positive male role models are invited to have a picnic with a WFSC child. Center Director Patricia Voshell said this year's focus will be on literacy and encouraging each adult participating to engage in reading and stimulating conversation with their lunchmate. Each student will have a packed lunch for their picnic and a book for their guest to read to them.
Voshell hopes the recent wintry weather conditions will not interfere with the event or the attendance. The deadline to RSVP is March 5.
"We are looking for as much positive male role model involvement as we can get," Voshell said Tuesday. Each year, community guests have included family members and personnel from the Audrain County Sheriff's Office, Mexico Public Safety Department, the local fire departments and medical professionals.
The center currently has 67 students and Voshell said the goal is to match "each and every child" with a guest.
"This is a positive event that the kiddos enjoy. It creates lasting memories and shows them that their families and community supports their educational experience. It also shows the students that our community leaders are just normal and caring people too," Voshell said.
To reserve a seat, call the William's Family Support Center at 581-6806. One group of children is scheduled to eat at 11 a.m. The second group eats at 12:30 p.m.
