Mildred (Penny) McFarling passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 5:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at Pin Oaks Nursing Home in Mexico. There will be private family burial. Services are under the direction of Arnold Funeral Home.
Penny was born in Watertown, Mass. on Nov. 18, 1924, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel Pendleton. She met her future husband, Glenn A. McFarling, while he was on leave from the Navy in October of 1945. They married on Dec. 28, 1945, after only having spent two weeks of those two months together. They moved to Mexico in 1946 after Glenn discharged from the Navy. After over 50 years together, Glenn passed away on May 7, 1996.
Penny is survived by two daughters, Judy Gibson (Les) and Jan McFarling Albin (Ted); four granddaughters, Gina Henry (Keith), Heather DeMint (Mitch), Amy Thoenen (Wayne) and Amanda Sells (Kelly); five great-granddaughters and one great-grandson, Kayla, Megan and Leah Henry, Brittney Thoenen, Taylor and Drew DeMint and one great-great-granddaughter, Abigail Turley. She is also survived by one sister, Ruthie Riddle.
Penny worked as a Mexico High School Cafeteria lady in the late '60s and '70s where she gained many special friends. She love to do (very difficult) crossword puzzles, loved game shows, mystery/detective shows and "Guiding Light." Most of all she loved her family and was looking forward to being reunited with Glenn.
Penny was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers.
