On Friday night, the Mexico Lady Bulldogs the No. 3 seed in the Class 4 District 8 tournament took to the court with determination and confidence when they faced the No. 2 seed Helias Lady Crusaders, who they had lost to earlier in the year. And that determination helped them with a 40-37 victory over the Lady Crusaders.
"It was a great game to be a part of. It was a physical game from finish to end and our girls played tough," stated MHS Coach Ed Costley. The team's defensive effort was key to shut down their inside game. And the Lady Bulldogs managed the clock in the end securing the victory.
The Lady Dawgs took an early lead 5-0 when Helias came back with a 3-pointer making it 5-3. Brooke Costley hit a basket with 5 minutes left in the first quarter to make 7-3. Helias came back making it 7-5 before Remington Greenwell hit a 3-pointer giving the Lady Dawgs at 5 point lead. After a basket and another 3-pointer Helias tied the game at 10.
