Dorothy Ida Bingham, 92, died Feb. 22, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, after a short illness. She was born in St. Louis, Mo. to John and Ida Kauffmann. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Dwight Ray Bingham; her son, Dale Reid; her mother and father and her brother, John Kauffmann.
She attended St. Louis public schools, St. Louis Business College, Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo., and graduated from Scarritt College, Nashville, Tenn., with a B.A. in religious education. In 1948 she married Donald F. Reid. Three boys were born to this marriage, David Wesley, Dale Philip and Douglas Paul.
She served as the educational assistant at Chillicothe (Mo.) United Methodist Church 1962-68 and married the Rev. Dwight Ray Bingham on August 3, 1968. They served the Slater and Gilliam United Methodist Churches for 10 years. They served the Epworth and Lake Creek UMCs for seven years and the couple retired to Mexico, Mo. in 1985. Thirteen years later, they moved to Ozarks Methodist Manor, in Marionville, to a home built by Dwight's nephew, Dale Bingham, of Bingham Construction Inc., Joplin.
A memorial service was held Feb. 25 at the Manor Chapel, 205 S. College Ave., Marionville, with the Revs. Lynn Quist and Ralph Prosser officiating. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Marionville or the Ozarks Methodist Manor.
