"What would you take..."
“If you were marooned on an island, what ____ items would you take?” That question has been a long time favorite of creative writing classes. The number of items you could take varies and sometimes it isn’t items, its books or people. Recently I heard a spin on that question of selection. “If you could go only ______ places on the web, where would you go?”
Americans love their technology and the Internet and all the places you can go on the Internet. Facebook, news pages, sports pages, stock market reports, weather pages, collections of jokes, YouTube videos, the web page of your employer or your hometown newspaper, Amazon.com, eBay and Pinterest are some of the Internet sites adults like to haunt. For teens, the latest music craze and its performers rank at the top.
What if you had to choice three favorite web sites and those were the only sites your computer could access? What would you give up? Why? What couldn’t you give up? And why? Would you negotiate for different sets of three for work and for home? Would you try to be picky and demand another set for your smartphone? Would others in your family/household have the same set? Would your set and theirs have anything in common?
Food for thought on another day with technology.
