More than 150 people turned out Monday for the North Central Missouri Ag Day celebration held at the Audrain County 4-H Center in Mexico. The all-day event was hosted by Country 96 KWWR and the meal was provided by the Missouri Cattlemen's Association and Missouri Pork Producers. The celebration began at 6 a.m. with doughnuts and coffee. Vendors were in place at 7 a.m. to talk with those attending. Guest speakers included Missouri Secretary of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler, who spoke optimistically about the outlook of Missouri agriculture, the challenges facing the planting season and the need for the Farm Bill. Other speakers included Missouri Pork Producer Executive Director Don Dikodim, Missouri Cattlemen Executive Director Mike Deering, Missouri Corn Growers Association Matt Amick, Missouri Soy Growers Association J.P. Dunn, University of Missouri Extension-Economic Specialist Ray Massey and University of Missouri Extension-FAPRI Specialist Abner Womack. QSI General Sales Manager Josh Nowlin and Branch Manager Frank Chapman were among the vendors attending the event. QSI is a Kansas based business that specializes in complete post frame buildings. Those attending received vendor give-aways and the chance to win two raffles. Several local businesses contributed to the event.
