The City of Mexico has a new recreation supervisor that brings to the table, hands-on experience and education.
South City St. Louis native Megan Wilkerson graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 2010 with a bachelor of science in general recreation. She has worked for the YMCA of Greater St. Louis, the Missouri Department of Conservation as well as North Carolina State University at the Betsy Jeff Penn 4-H Educational Center in Reidsville, NC.
"As an outdoor education specialist, I am super excited to be here in Mexico, and I cannot wait for spring to arrive so we can get a start on all of our awesome spring and summer programs!"
The recreation supervisor is a specialized position with the parks and recreation department responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling, directing and supervision of recreational activities and facilities for the City of Mexico.
Wilkerson will oversee daily operations of the Mexico Fairgrounds pool and schedule activities, special events and/or programs. The recreation supervisor also assists in public promotions, advertisement and marketing of recreation programs, services and opportunities available through the Mexico Parks and Recreation Department.
Wilkerson told The Mexico Ledger her first order of business is to get the department's spring programs started. She invites citizens to friend the department on Facebook; City of Mexico Parks and Recreation.
Wilkerson said she "can't wait for great weather to get outside."
