  • Temperatures in the 70s, a nice home crowd and a 4-2 victory – what better way for the Mexico girls soccer team to begin their season.
Mexico came up with two goals in the first half and two in the second half in the victory over Father Tolton Trailblazers of Columbia. The Trailblazers scored both their goals in the second half of the match.
Juniors Bailey Reed and Keagan Riddick scored the goals for Mexico. Reed scored the two goals in the first half, while Riddick scored the two in the second half including the game winner in the 74th minute of the match. Reed, Riddick, Lauren Ralls and Abby Dick all had one assist.
"It is always good to start the season off with a win," stated MHS Coach Brad Ellebracht. Tolton is a new program in its second year, and have a "huge upside."
The Lady Bulldogs went up by two goals in the first half, but as the second half wore on the Trailblazers kept throwing more and more players forward and ended up scoring two goals in about two minutes to tie up the game. The Lady Bulldogs regrouped and came back to claim the victory.
"Obviously, we were pretty disappointed with that sequence (Trailblazers two fast goals), but we responded well and came back to get two in the last 10 minutes," said the MHS coach.
Ellebracht stated there is a lot of areas the team showed some room for growth, and showed the potential to get better in those areas.
The next scheduled match for the Lady Bulldogs is 5 p.m. Tuesday at Fatima High School.
