    "The committee of fifteen, appointed by F.A. Morris, of the Commercial Club, on the Electric Railway proposition, is in conference at the Ringo Hotel as we go to press. We trust some plan will be devised to put this proposition on its feet, so that it may be extended."

    "Supplies for seven of the designated Civil Defense shelters here are expected to arrive tomorrow, CD Director Tom Merritt said today. Included are food, drums to be filled with water, sanitation kits, medical kits and radiation detector units for each location. The first shipment of supplies will be distributed to shelter locations at the Hoxsey Hotel, courthouse, Mexico Savings Bank, three locations at the MFA Mill, and at A.P. Green Fire Brick Co. Shipments for the other shelters will arrive at a later date, Mr. Merritt said. The equipment is coming by trailer from the Granite City, Ill., Engineers Depot."

    "Two candidatess have filed for the seat on the Little Dixie Rural Fire Department's Board of Directors which will be filled by voters in the April 5 election. They are Thomas Groves, chief deputy with the Audrain County Sheriff's Department, and Robert Knipfel, plumber and pipefitter. The term of board member Howard Pehle will expire in April. He has served one six-year term on the board and has not filed for re-election. Other members of the board are Robert Shutte, chairman, and David Moore. All terms are for six years."

    "The Mexico School Board of Education hired two members from the Bourbon school district on Tuesday to fill the MHS principal and special services director vacancies for the 2003-04 school year. Kevin L. Freeman, currently principal of Bourbon High School in Crawford County, was hired for the principal position beginning July 1. Dee Ragsdale, currently Director of Special Education at Crawford County R-1 Schools, will become the new special services director for the next school year replacing Debbie Nichols."
