  • Charles William "Bill" Burkhalter, 73, of rural Wellsville, passed away unexpectedly at 9:20 A.M., Monday, March 18, 2013 at his home.
    Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 20th at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
    Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 21st at Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville. Rev. Luke Wolters will officiate. Serving as organist will be Phyllis Reagan.
    Burial will be in the Wellsville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Pat Arens, Dale Blaue, Marty Canterbury, Charlie McCoy, Carl Oligschlaeger and Charlie Wohlbold. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Blaue, Dale Canterbury, Bill McClain and Gary Roppel.
    Mr. Burkhalter was born May 11, 1939, in rural Wellsville, a son of Erwin Cooper and Eliza Alice Blackshaw Burkhalter.
    He was a 1957 graduate of Wellsville-Middletown R-1 High School.
    Bill served his country in the U.S. National Guard entering on August 29, 1961 and being honorably discharged on August 28, 1967.
    On September 4, 1965, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville, he married Mary Ann Flandermeyer.
    He had lived all of his life in the Wellsville area. Bill was a grain farmer, raised pigs and had a commercial cattle herd.
    Bill was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville. He had also been a member of the Young Farmers, Montgomery County Extension Council and was a 4-H Project Leader.
    He enjoyed collecting fruit jars, antiquing and gardening. Bill's favorite pastime was going to PeeWee's Station and drinking coffee and visiting with friends.
    Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Burkhalter, of the home in Wellsville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Leigh Claire and Bruce Britt, of Ashland, Lynn Anita and Jason Hall, of Paynesville and Laura Kay Burkhalter and Jeffrey Shopper, of Kansas City; three grandchildren, Avery Magee Hall and Chase Cooper Hall, both of Paynesville and Stormy Ann Britt, of Ashland; sister, Mary Sue Branstetter and husband, Dale, of Pinckney, Michigan; brother, Donald Erwin Burkhalter and wife, Susan, of Columbia; in addition to nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Eliza Burkhalter and sister, Janice Fern Burkhalter.
