Dorothy D. Hazlett, 97, of Mexico died at 5:14 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Pickering Funeral Home with Doug McPike officiating. Visitation will be from noon until time of service. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Park.
Dorothy was born March 20, 1915, in Auxvasse, Mo., a daughter of Robert (Nick) and Tossie Annie Meador. Dorothy married Charles Virgil Sapp on March 19, 1938 in Fulton, Mo. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1976. She married Albert Hazlett on July 14, 1979 in Mexico. He died August 14, 1986. She worked at International Shoe Company in the 1930's and at Audrain Medical Center, after acquiring her LPN license, from the early 1960's until she retired in 1979.
Dorothy was active in the community and involved in the following organizations: Kentucky Road Christian Church, Willing Workers Circle at Kentucky Road Christian Church, Audrain Medical Center Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary Member for 50 years, AAPR, Past State President Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Past South Central Regional President Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Past President Mexico License Practical Nurse Chapter, Past President Columbia License Practical Nurse Chapter, Past President Mexico Band Mothers, Past President Eugene Field School Parent Teachers Association, School Parent Teacher Association Study Group, Brownie and Girl Scout leader for ten years, and inducted into Missouri Fraternal Order of Eagles hall of Fame 2008.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Parish of Mexico, and Bonnie Ransdell and husband Darrell of Branson; two grandsons, Donald A William II and wife Barbara of Prescott, Ariz., and Jon Tanna Parrish and wife Donna Sue of Judsonia, Ark.; one granddaughter, Dawn Ransdell of St. Louis; six great grandchildren, Heather K. Green of Denton, Tex., David K. Williams of Leander, Tex, Marc Williams, Madison and Sloan Williams of Prescott, Ariz. and Tyler Parish of Judsonia, Ark.; one great-great granddaughter, Kelsey Williams of Leander, Tex. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and one brother-in-law, O.T. Sapp of Hutchinson, Kans.
In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Raymond Meador; four sisters, Virginia Bonney, Adele Smith, Ruth Erdel, and Edna Bonsall-Johnson; two daughters, Natalie Cooper and Patricia Sapp; and one grand-daughter, Debra Lee Williams and one grandson, Shannon Ransdell.
