What better way to start the baseball season than with a 23-2 victory?
"It was a great way to start the 2013 season," said Paris Coach Mike Fible in regard to Monday night's game.
The game went four innings against Slater.
"Brant Francis did a great job for us on the mound with his first complete game," said the coach.
Offensively freshman Laine Forrest led the way with 3 hits, 6 RBI, 2 runs and a grand slam for his first varsity homerun. Steven Hayhurst had 5 RBI and Slater Stone had 4 RBI.
Paris: 2-7-2-12
Slater: 1-0-0-1
On Tuesday, the Coyotes lost 14-4 to the Mark Twain Tigers.
"It was a tough loss to a very good team. We came out of the gate well both defensively and offensively," said Coach Fible.
Pitcher Stephan Whalen threw well for the Coyotes, moving the ball well and changing speeds. Offensively Zac Baladenski got the team going in the bottom of the second with a 3-run homerun in his first ever at bat as a varsity player.
Fible hopes for a better outcome Thursday. "We look to pick it back up Thursday (tonight) as we travel to Cairo."
Steven Hayhurst, Shane Umstead each had 2 hits, while Slater Stone, John DeOrnellis and Stephen Whelan each had 1 hit.
Paris is 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference.

In its first home game of the season, the North Callaway Thunderbirds defeated last year's conference champions Elsberry 10-1.
"It was a good way to start with a win and defeating the conference champs," said NorCal Coach. "Our batters did a great job at the plate," he added.
Elsberry got its only run in the fourth inning and it was an unearned one. North Callaway scored in the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Justin Murphy, winning pitcher for the Thunderbirds, pitched five innings, allowing one unearned run. He struck out 12 allowed 4 hits and did not walk anyone.
Ryan Thurman was 3-4 with 3 RBI, 2 runs and 2 stolen bases; Jake Key was 2-4 with a double, triple and 2 RBI; David Craighead was 2-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run; Paul Zerr was 2-3 with one walk and 2 runs; Cole Branson was 1-2 with 1 RBI, 1 run and 1 walk.
Josh Phillips was the losing pitcher, pitching five innings.
North Callaway is 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Elsberry is 1-4 and 0-1 in conference.
The junior varsity team also won 8-4.
The Thunderbirds increased the record to 3-0 Wednesday night when they played Silex. NorCal won 12-2 in six innings.
Paul Zerr (1-0) was the winning pitcher, pitching 4 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 2 bases on balls and 1 strikeout. He also helped himself by going 2-3 at bat with 1 walk and 1 RBI. Jake Key was 2-3 with 1 RBI; his brother, Chance Key was 2-4 with 2 RBI, 1 walk and 2 runs scored; Justin Murphy was 1-2 with 1 walk, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored and a sacrifice fly.
"We hit the ball hard, even the outs were hit hard," stated coach Oneal.
North Callaway is 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference.
Silex is 0-2 overall and in conference.
North Callaway plays again tonight at Community R-6.

The junior varsity team also won 11-1.
