Mexico Bulldogs baseball team lost 5-1 Friday in a conference game against Kirksville Tigers.
The game was scoreless through the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth Kirksville scored 4 runs. Mexico allowed three walks and hit a batter. The Tigers then came through with a big hit into the outfield and scored 3 runs. The Tigers added another run in the fifth and 1 in the seventh. The Bulldogs scored their only run in the top of the fifth.
Mexico's offense could not capitalize with runners on base, stranding six in the game.
"We couldn't find that big hit," remarked MHS Coach Keith Louder.
Sophomore Cody Creed took the loss for the Bulldogs, pitching 5 innings, struck out 8, walked 3 and hit a batter. Tyler Bracht came in in relief and pitched 2 innings.
Offensively, Creed was 1-3 and Dylan Nance was 1-3 with a double.
KIRKSVILLE: 5 runs, 2 hits, 5 errors, 3 left on base.
MEXICO: 1 run, 2 hits, 1 error, 6 left on base.
Mexico's is 2-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The JV team won 7-5. Tyler Warmbrodt got the win and Chance Harper recorded the save. On the offensive, D'Milo Nunnelly was 2-3 with 3 RBI, Karsten Ekern was 1-2 with an RBI, and Harper was 1-3.
The JV's record is 5-0.
Both teams return to action tonight at Kirksville.

MHS GOLF: Coming off a close loss to Marshall on Thursday with a 5 stroke difference, Mexico varsity had deja vu against host Fulton Friday, losing by just 4 strokes. Varsity scores against Marshall were 172-167 and against Fulton it was 178-174.

The JV team defeated Marshall 195-1977 and took down Fulton shooting 193-261.

MHS 9th-10th GRADE: On Saturday the Bulldogs hosted the Hannibal Pirates and came out victorious in both games of the doubleheader, 13-1 and 18-0.
In the first game Scott Speaks pitched all 4 innings to record his first win of the year, giving up 1 earned run. Leading the way for the Bulldogs offensively were Spencer Thomas with 3 RBI, Karsten Ekern, 1 RBI and D'Milo Nunnelly who homered and had 2 RBI.
In the second game of the doubleheader Dalton Logerman and Logan Anselmi pitched 3 scoreless innings, while J.W. Turner and Connor Blackburn led the way with 2 RBIs apiece.
"We were able to take advantage of Hannibal's errors early and jumped out to big leads in both games," Coach Brandon Schafer remarked.
