Shafer, Kline and Warren, Inc., to provide surveys
As part of the city's ongoing boundary and surveying efforts, the Mexico City Council Monday night approved a resolution to hire Shafer, Kline and Warren, Inc., to provide boundary surveys at four Mexico parks and recreation sites.
The four parks to be surveyed include:
1. Route J (an 18.89-acre extension of the NE Park boundary off of Agriculture).
2. Morningside (a 20-acre parcel of land near the Lawrence Shelter in Plunkett Park).
3. Old Village Cemetery survey (off North Western Street); and
4. Plunkett Lake, Luther Drive survey.
Neither the Route J nor Morningside properties have ever been identified or surveyed for boundary markings, Shoemaker said.
"This project requires a lot of difficult work and will involve a lot of hours in getting it done. But it will keep us in compliance with the Department of Natural Resources and the State Park Service," Shoemaker said. He anticipates that the surveyors could start as soon as next week. The exact date has not been specified.
The 2012-2013 annual budget provides $38,000 to cover the cost of the parks engineering projects. Shoemaker said the city has posting obligations to keep park and recreation site visitors from wandering into neighboring privately-owned properties.
The council voted 5-0 at Monday night's city council meeting to sign a professional services task order No. 5 with Shafer, Kline & Warren, Inc. Each park will have a different scope of services that SKW will provide.
