"The fire company was called out, Friday morning, to a small fire in the house of Mrs. Daisy Montgomery, in the south part of Mexico. The fire, was extinguished before the fire company reached the scene. Very little damage was done."

"Andy Clark was elected president of the Mexico Junior Chamber of Commerce last night at the annual election meeting at Hotel Hoxsey. He will be installed at a banquet early in May. Other officers elected were: first vice president, Jerry Kalkofen; second vice president, Don Dick; secretary, Phil Gilmore; treasurer, Ed Hodge; state board member, Bob Bruce; and local board members, Tim Hagan, Jim Gritton, and Darwin Hindman. Kevin Farnen has another year to serve on the board. Retiring president W.S. (Bob) Robinson also will be a state board member."

""Three community citizens will be honored at the ninth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Drum Major for Justice Scholarship and Awards dinner at 6 p.m. April 28 at the Catfish Place. The guest speaker will be Dr. Wendell Rayburn, the new president of Lincoln University. The three – the Rev. Lester Washington, pastor of the St. Paul CME of Mexico; Mary Jane Camp, secretary of local chapter of SCLC; and John Dial, superintendent of employee labor relations at National Refractories – are being honored for their achievements and contributions to the community. They will receive the Martin Luther King Drum Major for Justice Award, the highest honor in the civil rights area."

"Moises Cortes says he was frustrated with the dining choices in Mexico. Instead of driving elsewhere to get the meals he desired, Cortes decided to provide them himself. Now Cortes, a former Hardee's executive, is the owner of Marcelina's Italian Family Restaurant, located at 621 E. Liberty St. (the former Rojo's building). In addition to Italian and pasta dishes including fettuccine and linguini, Marcelina's serves traditional dishes such as fried chicken and also serves breakfast. The restaurant also specializes in steaks."
