Patrol cars to sound alarm if tornado warning necessary

Mexico Department of Public Safety is currently experiencing an equipment failure of the radio system repeater. Repairs are scheduled and in progress. However, this outage affects our ability to activate and utilize the emergency weather sirens. We are currently in a tornado watch and will remain so until 10:00 pm.
Should the watch become a warning we will be deploying all patrol cars to sound the alarm according to our policy. They will follow an established route to alert the neighborhoods by a public address system.
The repairs to the siren system should be made within the week.
As always, we encourage everyone to have an emergency weather radio, to monitor and heed the warnings, and be prepared to take shelter as necessary.
Also, as a reminder, Mexico and Audrain County are part of the Everbridge Emergency Alert System. This service allows you to include your telephone number to receive calls or text messages regarding emergency news.
