Westbound lanes remain open to traffic
HANNIBAL - Early this morning, Thursday, April 18, MoDOT has temporarily closed eastbound US 36 west of Shelbina and just east of Route FF due to water over the road from overflowing roadside ditches.
Eastbound US 36 traffic only is being detoured on US 63 south at Macon south to eastbound US 24 at Moberly to US 36 at Monroe City. Detour signs and message boards are in place to advise motorists of the road closure and alternate routes. Westbound US 36 remains open to traffic.
MoDOT reminds motorists that it is dangerous to drive into water-covered roads. Motorists will need to follow the detoured route or consider other local routes. Crews will open the roadway as soon as the water recedes and has been cleared for safe travel.
With water over several northeast Missouri roads, motorists are encouraged to check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org or call 1-888 ASK MODOT (888-275-6636) before starting a trip to the area.
