  • The Callaway 2 Water District in Callaway County has issued a Boil Advisory due to a water main leak.
The boil advisory is for the following areas in Callaway County: County Road 305 (between State Road H and State Road F), County Road 306 and County Road 308. Subdivisions included are: Cedar Oaks; Stonehaven; Laurlake and Oak Grove.
Water district officials urge customers to be aware that when water pressure returns they should boil any water for consumption for three minutes for a period of 48 hours from the date the water pressure is restored. Also note there may be some discoloration of the water due to iron deposits being stirred up during flushing and trapped air in mains. If at all possible, please avoid doing laundry for the 48-hour period also.
People with severely compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking water.
The voluntary boil order states the following precautions:
    1. Boil water vigorously for three minutes prior to use. Use only boiled water for drinking, brushing teeth, diluting fruit juices and all other food preparations or consumption. Use of bottled water may be a feasible, though a relatively expensive alternative to boiling tap water when under a boil water advisory.
    2. Do not use ice from a household automatic ice maker or use any ice made with unboiled water from this system. Remake ice cubes with water that has been boiled or buy ice.
    3. Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
    4. Let water cool sufficiently before drinking.
Water used for hand-washing or bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary when bathing so water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicans.
