  • NORTH CALLAWAY BASEBALL
Justin Murphy pitched a no-hitter Thursday night for the North Callaway Thunderbirds against Clopton. Murphy has not allowed an earned run in 45 innings. In the game against Clopton he struck out 13, allowed no hits or did not issue a base on balls. The final was 1-0.
"Justin played an excellent ballgame, really hitting the corners," remarked NorCal Coach Kevin O'Neal.
Chance Allen had the only 2 hits for the Thunderbirds. In the third inning, Allen got a base hit and stole second. Brandon Hagedorn had a sacrifice to advance Allen to third and Ryan Thurman had a sacrifice fly to center, which scored Allen.
"We had an excellent approach at the plate, if we do it again the ball will find holes. We hit the ball hard," commented O'Neal.
North Callaway is 8-5 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
The junior varsity also won 4-2.
Weather permitting North Callaway will play undefeated Sturgeon tonight.

    COMMUNITY R-6 GOLF
The Community R-6 golf team competed in the Eastern Missouri Conference golf tournament on Thursday, at Tanglewood Golf Course.
R-6 finished in third place – the highest finish they have had since the program began.
"We had two players make all-conference: Caleb Bertels and Chris Wieberg. Treyton Kobush missed all-conference by one stroke," remarked R-6 Coach Vicki Briggs.
"All-in-all, it was a good performance by our team. I was very proud to have two all-conference players and finish as high as we did in the tournament as a team. In fact, it is our highest finish ever," added Briggs.
R-6 travels back to play at Tanglewood on Monday for the district tournament. " I think we will do even better," said Briggs.
