  • Missouri Military Academy held its annual Formal Inspection Friday. The Annual Formal Inspection (AFI) is an event cadets prepare for the entire school year. JROTC officials representing the U.S. Army arrived on campus at 8 a.m. to begin the full inspection. The day began with the Battalion Staff briefing, in which the senior cadet leaders brief the inspecting officers about what their responsibilities entail at MMA and recap what they have done in their position throughout the school year. Next the officials inspected the barracks. The commanders and platoon leaders of the companies led an inspection team member up and down each hallway to check the condition of each room and ask the room's occupants a few questions. After that was complete, the Corps of Cadets lined up in the Field House for the In Ranks Inspection. Here the inspection team examined each cadet in formation, checking to make sure uniforms and position were correct. The Battalion Review completed the day's events. During Review, the Battalion Commander, John Dillon '13 of Colorado Springs, Colo. was presented with the McArthur Award, which is given to the cadet who displays exemplary work in academics, leadership, and athletics. At the close of the inspection, once all paperwork is completed by the inspecting officials, MMA will find out if they once again earn the "JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction" status, which it has maintained for decades. Mexico High School Detached ROTC also participated in joint event. MHS JROTC and MMA JROTC conduct two joint classes – one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
