It was a hitting fest for the Mexico Bulldogs baseball team on Friday when they traveled to Fulton for an NCMC game. The Bulldogs outhit the Hornets 15-5 and won the game 19-4.
Junior Gavin Jones pitched five innings to record the win. Jones, 4-0 on the season, struck out 2 and did not walk any batter. "Gavin has pitched extremely well (this season) and continues to do so. He doesn't strike out many, but he keeps us in the ballgame," stated MHS Coach Keith Louder.
Louder is pleased with the way his ball team is playing. "We have solid pitching and defense," he remarked. The hits were slow coming in the beginning of the season, but are now coming when the team needs them. "Offensively it was a good night (Friday). Fulton had trouble with defense, but we were able to capitalize on that, especially in the later innings," summed up Louder.
Offensively for the Bulldogs, Tyler Bracht was 3-6, Cody Creed was 3-5 with 5RBI, Matt Ridgway was 3-5 with 4RBI, and Garrett Carroz went 2-5 with 3RBI.
The Bulldogs are 10-5 on the season and 5-4 in conference play.
They return to action this afternoon in the Fulton tournament. At 2 p.m. they play North Callaway. The winner of that game plays at 4 p.m. against the winner of the Southern Boone/Hallsville game.
