In the championship of the Fulton tournament, Fatima, ranked fourth in the state, defeated North Callaway 12-10.
Fatima had a 9-3 lead in the fifth inning and scored 3 insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Justin Murphy nearly tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and two outs. He hit a line drive to the right fielder for the final out.
Tanner Murphy was the losing pitcher. He pitched 4 innings, allowed 5 runs (unearned), 4 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.
At the plate for North Callaway Chance Kee was 2-3 with 2RBI and 1 run scored. He was also hit by a pitch. Justin Murphy was 2-5 with 1RBI and 1 run scored; pinch hitter Brandon Hagedorn was 1-1 with a 2-run double and 1 run scored.
"The game hurt like any loss, but I am proud of the team's responsibility. Bad things happen, but keeping your teammates up and cheering for them is what I have been looking for all year," remarked NorCal Coach Kevin O'Neal.
The Thunderbirds are 11-7 on the season. They return to action Monday at home when they play Van-Far at 3 p.m. and Wright City at 5 p.m. Both games are EMO conference games. Wright City, like North Callaway, has not lost a conference game. Wright City and North Callaway junior varsity plays after the varsity game.
