When the metal-tubing legs of her kitchen stools cut her new vinyl floor, Club member Carolyn Henry of St. Paul, Minnesota, tried putting rubber “crutch tips” on the ends, but the sharp metal cut through those, too. Then she devised a solution: Slip a coin or washer into the crutch tip before putting it on the leg. Nickels or 3/8-in. washers fit perfectly into the 7/8-in. tips her stools required, and they kept the legs from puncturing the rubber. For 80 cents in nickels, she was able to protect her floor.
