The St. Louis Cardinals split their two game series with the Chicago Cubs winning a back and forth game Wednesday afternoon after losing the night before. The Cardinals return home to begin a weekend series with the surprising Colorado Rockies who were not expected to do well this year but have played excellent baseball so far this season. The Cardinals have always played the Rockies well at Busch Stadium and hopefully that trend will continue.
The Kansas City Royals lost two out of three to the Baltimore Orioles winning the final game of the series thanks to a couple of long home runs. The Royals return home to start a weekend series with the New York Yankees if there are enough healthy Yankees to field a team. The once mighty Yankees are having a hard time keeping their ancient roster healthy enough to make it on the field for each game. See what happens when you sign players to long term money contracts and then their bodies break down?
The St. Louis Blues suffered a very tough overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night at the Scott Trade Center. The Blues needed to win game 5 in my opinion in order to be able to go on to win their series with the Kings. It’s going to be an uphill battle now with the Kings leading 3 games to 2 and game 6 being in LA. I’m afraid I don’t like the Blues chances as the Kings seem to be playing with more and more confidence while the Blues have been beaten and battered by a very physical Kings team.
NASCAR is in Darlington to race on one of the legendary tracks on the circuit. It will be interesting to see how Danica Patrick and some of the younger drivers who aren’t used to the track at Darlington perform in Saturday night’s race.
As mentioned in Wednesday blog the KHS track teams head to Mexico on Saturday for the district track meet. The boys track team should have several top finishers especially in the distance events where Andrew Gordon has ran exceptionally well all year. The relay teams have also come on as of late. The girls have perhaps the top 4 by 800 relay team in the state and are also very strong in the hurdles and the field events. I would not be at all surprised if the KHS girls track team won the district by a comfortable margin while the boys should be at or near the top as well.
The KHS girls soccer team continue their excellent season as districts begin in Kirksville on Saturday and continue throughout next week.
The KHS baseball team has the weekend off before beginning district play in Fulton next week.
