"Break-ins at two Mexico churches were discovered this morning. Although nothing was missing, except a $1 bill from the First Baptist Church, police reported vandalism at that church and also at the First Christian Church. A spade was used to force the door jambs on the pastor's office and the door to the education director's office at the Baptist Church, police said. A dollar bill was missing from a desk drawer. At the First Christian Church the pastor's office had been entered by breaking the glass in a door, police said."

"Jaye Jackson, of Mexico, was awarded the Outstanding Missourian Award for her 18-year involvement with the Next Step program in the Mexico School District, a program that ironically may be a victim of budget cuts next year. Jackson was recognized in a short presentation on Monday by Rep. Steve Hobbs (R-Mexico) and colleagues in the Missouri House of Representatives in Jefferson City. The Outstanding Missourian Award, according to Hobbs, recognizes Missourians who have shown outstanding service to their community and its betterment through the years."
