The Mexico Bulldogs baseball team advanced to the second round of District play Saturday when they defeated the Missouri Military Academy Colonels 17-1 in five innings.
The Colonels scored their only run in the second inning.
Dale Test was on the mound for the Bulldogs, pitching 3 innings, striking out 5 and walked 1. Thomas Clay pitched 1 inning with 1 strikeout and 1 walk.
The No. 3 seed Bulldogs play the No. 2 seed Boonville Pirates tonight. The Bulldogs split with the Pirates in regular play this season. MHS Coach Keith Louder said the top three teams, Kirksville (1), Boonville and Mexico are evenly matched and his team is looking forward to tonight.
"The guys are excited about tonight," said the MHS coach. He added, "every step gets harder at this stage of the season."
At the plate Matt Ridgway had a big day going 2-3 with 2 triples and 5RBI. Tyler Bracht was 3-3 with 3RBI, D'Milo Nunnelly was 1-1 with a 2 run home run; and Austin Logerman and Brade Smith were 1-1.
Mexico with an overall record of 15-8 plays Boonville at 7 p.m. today at Fulton.
