The North Callaway Thunderbirds lost 7-1 to Wright City in the semi-finals of the District Tournament Monday. North Callaway scored its only run in the fourth inning.
Chance Kee was 1-3 with a double and a sacrifice fly. He was driven home by his brother Jake Kee with a sacrifice fly; and Vance Allen was 2-2 with a sacrifice.
Paul Zerr (4-3) was the losing pitcher, allowing 5 runs, 5 hits, 2 strikeouts and no walks. Tyler Tuepker was the winning pitcher.
A highlight of the game came when senior Justin Murphy came in to pitch in the 6th inning, striking out three, making a total of 105 strikeouts in 64 innings this season. He broke the school record held by Collin Brinker who struck out 102 last year.
The Hallsville Indians defeated Centralia Panthers in the other semi-final Monday by a score of 2-0. The Indians scored their 2 runs in the seventh inning. Up to that point they did not have a hit.
Wright City and Hallsville will play for the championship Wednesday at 6 p.m. at North Callaway.
