At District tournament
Mexico Bulldogs baseball team's season came to an end Monday night when they lost in the semi-finals of the District Tournament 5-1 to second seed Boonville Pirates.
The Bulldogs' (seeded 3rd) undoing came in the fourth inning, when the Pirates put two hits together, had 2 walks and Mexico committed two errors allowing the Pirates to tally runs.
"The inning got away from us and it hurt us," stated MHS Coach Keith Louder.
The Bulldogs who scored their only run in the third inning had a chance to add to their score in the top of the sixth. They had the bases loaded but left the runners stranded on base.
Louder stated he was proud of his team and they had a good season with a 15-9 record.
"We had a good season and they are a good group of young men," summed up Louder.
Cody Creed took the mound for the Bulldogs, pitching 5 innings, with 6 strikeouts and allowed three base on balls. Gavin Jones pitched one inning, striking out 1 with no walks.
At the plate for Mexico, Austyn Sampo was 2-3 with an RBI which was the only run for the Bulldogs. Tyler Bracht was 1-2, Creed was 1-4, Dylan Nance and Jake Willer were each 1-3.
SOCCER: Mexico Lady Bulldogs soccer team ended their season Monday night with a 1-0 loss to the Marshall Owls in the District Tournament.
The match was tied at the end of regulation and went 0-0 through two 15 minute overtime periods then and was decided on penalty kicks.
"It was one of our better efforts in a while, and I thought that we had some young players that really showed a lot of growth in their approach to the game last night," stated MHS Coach Brad Ellebracht.
Mexico ended its season 6-14.
