Get to know your bicycle on Thursday evenings at 7 pm

We’re offering a series of Thursday evening workshops this summer to help you ride your bike knowledgeably, comfortably, and safely. Topics include:   Simple Bicycle Maintenance How Do I Get There? (An interactive discussion) What’s a Derailleur? Hills & Gears Out of Town on Rural Highways Biking Baltimore: You Can Do It! Training Tips and Nutrition Just for Women Biking with Children   Our first workshop, Simple Bicycle Maintenance, is Thursday, May 23, 7 – 8 pm at Brashear Park. You’ll learn how to clean and oil your chain and how to change a flat tire. Two bicycle mechanics will show you how to make your bike run smoothly and answer any other questions you have about bicycle maintenance.   Bring your own bike to work on, or learn on one of our extras. Bring your helmet for the half-hour ride afterwards. Check your lights as it might be getting dark.   During the summer, workshops will be the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 7 pm either at Brashear Park or at the Adair County Health Dept. The June 6 workshop, “How Do I Get There? (An interactive discussion)” will be at the Adair County Health Dept., 1001 S. Jamison. We’ll discuss and debate the best ways to get around town. Kirksville is very bikeable, and with a little planning you can bike anywhere in town.   Is there a topic you’re interested in that you don’t see covered? Or do you have any other questions or comments about the workshops? Let me know! (Find me on facebook or email rachel at ruhlendavis dot org.)
