Melvin W. Shaw, 87, Centralia, Mo, passed away May 20, 2013 at his home. He was born June 11, 1925 the son of the late Garfield and Ethel (Cox) Shaw. On November 14, 1945 he was united in marriage to Clarabelle (Meserole). She preceded him in death on June 28, 2009.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons Terry Shaw of Aurora, Ill. and Steve "Gator" Shaw and his wife Missy of Mexico, Mo; one daughter Debbie Jacobson and her husband Logan Motley of Centralia, Mo; one sister Millie Dickey of DeKalb, Ill.; six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Shaw served his country in the United States Army during World war II. He first worked as Deputy Sheriff and Captain of Detectives for DeKalb County, Illinois. Later he served as Sheriff of DeKalb County and then retired from the City of Genoa Police Department, where he served as Police Chief. He was a member of the DeKalb Illinois Masonic Lodge and the DeKalb County Shrine Club. He enjoyed woodworking and shooting guns. He was awarded numerous trophies and awards for his marksmanship.
Funeral services will be 8:00 pm Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Oliver Funeral Home in Centralia, Mo. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until service time on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Oliver Funeral Home in Centralia, Mo.
