Qualify for state track and field competition this weekend

Eight Mexico High School track and field athletes will compete in the 2013 Missouri State Track and Field competition Friday and Saturday. The competition will be held at the Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
MHS Coach Bucky Green says his athletes are ready. He said most kids are glad to qualify for state. "Not these kids – they are in it," he said, "and serious about bringing home state medals."
MHS athletes competing will be Zori Holman, Anne Baker, Karen Baker, Phoebe Frazer, Jake Anderson, Christian McKeown, Jami Brandow (qualified for two events) and Malik Holman.
For the girls Zori Holman, sectional champion in the girls high jump, will start off the day Friday for MHS when she competes at 11 a.m.
Next for the Bulldogs will be Frazer, sectional champion in the shot put and Anne Baker, second at sectionals in the shot put. They will compete at 2 p.m. Also competing at 2 p.m. will be Karen Baker in the triple jump. She placed second at the sectional meet. Jami Brandow will run in the 3200 meter at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and compete in the 1600 meter run at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. She placed first in the 3200 meter and third in the 1600 meter in the sectional competition.
For the boys, Jake Anderson will compete in the high jump at 2 p.m. Friday. He placed second in the event at the sectional meet. Christian McKeown who placed third in the 800 meter run at sectionals will run at 4:45 p.m. Friday. Malik Holman will be the only boy running on Saturday when he competes in the 3200 meter at 3:25 p.m. He placed fourth in the event at the sectional meet.
The competition begins with 16 athletes in each event and the top eight earn All-State honors.
