Robert Myrle Rivers, Sr., 82, retired Mexico businessman, died Sunday morning, June 2, 2013 at the Audrain Medical Center.
Private graveside services will be held with the immediate family at East Lawn Memorial Park on Friday, June 7, 2013 with Rev. Bob Stanford of Rush Hill Community Church officiating.
Born on January 3, 1931 in Mexico, Mr. Rivers was the son of Kenneth Roland and Anna Viola (Jones) Rivers. On March 18, 1950, he married Betty Jean Hatfield in Mexico. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2009.
Mr. and Mrs. Rivers had previously owned and operated Bob's Appliance Center in Mexico, retiring in 2001.
He was a member of the Salt River Christian Church.
Survivors are one son, Robert Myrle Rivers, Jr. and wife Leslie of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Carol Jean Benskin and husband Marvin, of Mexico; three grandsons, Jason Lyle Rivers of Louisville, Ky., Beau Nicholas Benskin and wife Jessica of Paris and Garrett Gregory Benskin and wife Terri of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Gage Nicholas Ralph Benskin and Brylie Marie Jean Benskin of Paris and Aedan Ulysses Benskin of Columbia; brothers Kenneth R. Rivers, Jr. of Kansas City and William L. Rivers of Oklahoma and one sister Mildred L. Martin of Mexico.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James C. Rivers, who died in 1962 while serving overseas with the U.S. Army, one sister, Dorothy M. Sullivan and his parents.
Mr. Rivers enjoyed talking about American history, the history and events of his own family, traveling and having coffee daily with his many friends at the downtown restaurant. His family, especially his grandsons and great-grandchildren were highlight of his life. He will be sadly missed by his family.
