Mary Bernice Vernon Brown, 85, Sturgeon, Mo., passed away Monday, June 3, 2013.
Mary was born Sept. 29, 1927 in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Clark and Anna Bernice Brooks Vernon.
On Aug. 5, 1960 she was married to Richard Larry Brown and he preceded her in death Aug. 18, 1980.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Columbia, Mo.
Mary graduated on June 14, 1949 in Louisville, Ky. with a Bachelor of Arts Degree; from the University of Missouri, Columbia, on June 8, 1957 with a Master's of Art Degree, and the University of Missouri on June 8, 1967 with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree.
She taught at William Woods University, Fulton, Mo., for 20 years years where her husband, Richard, was a teacher.
Mrs. Brown was an avid reader and often read Amish books.
Survivors include the Administrative Staff and friends at Jones Wildwood Care Center, Madison. She had resided there for eight years which had become her family and was so dearly loved by everyone.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, at Fenton Funeral Chapel, Centralia. Officiating will be Burdett Cook. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, north of Sturgeon. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at Fenton Funeral Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in c/o Fenton Funeral Chapel, 104 South Collier Street, Centralia
Pallbearers will be Chris Jones, Elton Fay, Bill Frazier, Bart Arends, Randy Burke and Chad Puckett.
