I read a short story by F Scott Fitzgerald named Babylon Revisited. It’s about a businessman named Charlie Wales who, after the death of his wife and his lengthy battle with alcoholism, goes to Paris to attempt to regain custody of his daughter from his sister-in-law. While there he faces his own demons as his sobriety gives him clarity of vision to see his old party lifestyle as the destructive force that it was. He sees all his old party grounds and realizes how much money and time he wasted on them. He also laments the time wasted away from his daughter. I won’t spoil the ending but it’s a good reminder how time changes us all and how sometimes mistakes can have very long term consequences.
