Irvin F. Gruer, Jr., 86, of Centralia, died at 6:58 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at Audrain Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Pickering Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Sites officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Farber Cemetery.
Mr. Gruer was born on June 29, 1926, in Laddonia, Mo., the elder son of Irvin Frederick and Mollie Marie (Ehrlich) Gruer. On Dec. 31, 1950, in Litchfield, Ill., he married Ruby Irene Davis. She preceded him in death on Mar. 24, 1998. He then was married to his high school sweetheart, Glenna Mae Moore Schuster on Jan. 16, 1999, in Centralia. Glenna survives at the home.
Irvin was a member of the Laddonia class of 1944, he was a veteran, having served in the US Army. He was an avid fisherman, and also enjoyed hunting. He spent many winters in Texas. Mr. Gruer farmed in the Laddonia and Hatton areas. He attended the Centralia United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife survivors include, three sons, Terry Gruer, Mexico, Walter Gruer and wife Sabrina, Mexico, Dale Gruer and wife Janet, Hatton; three daughters, Connie Kelleher Mellor and husband Glen, Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Kathy Davidson Crawford and husband David, Mexico, and Rhonda Gruer (Craghead-Keipp), Mexico; one step-daughter, Helen Kay Naeger, St. Louis; one brother, Edward Gruer and wife Edith, Pleasant Garden, N.C.; one sister, Ruth Ann Doyle, Jacksonville, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Dorothy Barnett, Mae Kathryn Gardner, and Edna Thompson Belts.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missouri Veterans Home resident's fund. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
