June 24, 1967

Act of Congress extends deadline for redeeming Silver Certificates

Secretary of Treasury C. Douglas Dillon announced on March 24, 1964, that Silver Certificates could no longer be redeemed for silver coins.

On June 24, 1967, an act of Congress allowed Silver Certificates to be redeemed for one year--June 24, 1967, to June 24, 1968.
