  • Approves airport proposals

  • Airport transactions and city roadway projects topped the agenda of the Mexico City Council meeting Monday night.
    Mayor Ron Loesch and councilmen Steve Nichols, Greg Miller and Chris Williams were present. Councilman Dan Botts was absent.
    The council approved two ordinances to lease a parcel of land at the Mexico Memorial Airport and sell an airport hangar to Joseph L. Jacobi II and his wife, local physician Dr. Diane J. Jacobi. The council also authorized leasing a hangar to Mark Stuart.
    The Jacobis submitted a request to purchase an existing hangar which they current rent at the Mexico Memorial Airport. The Jacobis agreed to purchase hangar B104 and lease the land from the city for a 20-year period with the proposed lease and being re-evaluated every five years thereafter. The purchase price of the hangar is $8,568, and the couple agrees to pay $90 monthly to lease the property for the hangar. The Jacobis also purchased hangar B108 for $16,427, agreeing to pay $80 per month to lease the property for the hangar.
    Stuart's lease will be for a term of one year automatically renewable at the end of the first year with the hangar rent being $90 per month. Council approved both ordinances with 4-0 votes.
    Director of Economic Development Russell Runge reported to council that there are currently 15 names on the list of individuals interested in renting airport hangars, and that no other interest has been voiced for hangars B108 or B104.
    The council also approved resolutions to sign contracts with Missouri Petroleum Products Company for the 2013 Micro Seal Projects, and with Mid River Asphalt, Inc. for asphalt improvements. The engineer's estimate for the asphalt improvements is $94,312 and $83,830.63 for the sealing projects. Council voted 4-0.
    The council also approved the following:
    • an ordinance for the final approval of Tate Subdivision Plat 2, submitted by Larry and Judy Rotenburger. Tate sub-division Plat 2 is a reconfiguration of Lots 2 and 3 of Tate Subdivision, located at 1918 W. Liberty and South Elmwood Drive. The Rotenburgers were present at the meeting.
    Final approval was given to the plat on June 4 by the Planning and Zoning Commission. Staff has reviewed the proposed plat for city compliance and all utilities are in place. Council approved the ordinance 4-0.
    Council comments included the following:
    • Councilman Nichols asked staff to look into a water draining issues on Gray Street, and announced there are currently openings on several city advisory boards and commissions.
    • Councilman Miller noted that work on the Garfield restrooms looked good and were nearly completed. He also asked staff to look into a standing water issue on Falcon and Cardinal streets.
    • City Manager Slagle reminded citizens about Relay for Life, beginning Friday night. He also noted the annual event has been moved to the Mexico Senior High School and that fireworks will be fired at midnight.
