Charley A. Crawford, 88, of Hatton passed away at the Mexico Veterans' Home on Thursday, July 11, 2013. He was born January 16, 1925 in Olean, the son of the late John Crawford and Birdie (Cunningham) Crawford. On May 22, 1960, he was united in marriage to Dorothy (Mealy) Crawford, who survives his passing at the home.
In addition to his wife, Charley will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, Greg Crawford of Columbia, and Gary Crawford and wife, Judy, of Hatton; one daughter, Marla McCowan and husband, Matthew, of Hatton; six grandchildren, Michaela Crawford, Adam Crawford, William Crawford, Joseph Crawford, Zachary McCowan, and Joshua McCowan. In addition to his parents, Charley was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Crawford, Truman Crawford, and Ralph Crawford; and three sisters, Mildred Winterbower, Myrtle Keeling, and Edna Worthy.
Charley was a member and a Deacon of Rising Sun Baptist Church. He served in the US Army from 1944-1946 as a Cavalry Trooper in the China-Burma-India Theatre. After his service to our country, Charley was a lifelong farmer and also worked as an insurance agent for Farmers' Mutual Insurance from 1974 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of The Gideons International and served as treasurer on the Callaway Electric Board and also worked in the ASCS Office.
Funeral services will be 10:00am on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Rising Sun Baptist Church in Auxvasse with Dr. Charles Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton. Interment will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Hatton.
