Pearl Irene Edwards, 82, of Middletown, passed away at 6:20 A.M., Saturday, July 27, 2013 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 P.M., Monday, July 29 at the Middletown Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 30th at Olney Baptist Church. Rev. Jack Chemin will officiate. Serving as pianist will be Steve Sanderson. Soloist will be Debbie Ingram.
Burial will be in Olney Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Shepard, Clay Hardesty, Matt Hill, Jed Edwards, Jim Craig and Scott Craig. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Cruzen, David Duvel, Bill Haines, Tom Olds, Mike Schumacher and Gordon Voss.
Services are under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Middletown.
Mrs. Edwards was born at home in McBaine, Missouri to Orel and Ruth John on January 12, 1931.
After graduation from high school, Irene attended the state teachers college in Kirksville, MO, majoring in Physical Education. She transferred to the University of Missouri in 1950. There she met Ruben Edwards. They dated and married on September 2, 1951, in Huntsville, Mo.
Irene had changed her major to Home Economics when she met Ruben. She began a lifelong perfecting of homemaker and hostess once they moved home. She managed the household and worked with Ruben to create a nationally known farm, HampAn Farms, that produced exceptional Hampshire hog breeding stock and Angus cattle.
She has been known as "Miss Irene" by at least three generations of folks who were fortunate to arrive in time for a meal at her table. Irene loved her gardens, both vegetable and flower. She created a beautiful setting for all to enjoy. She has canned and frozen vegetables and beef and pork to have on hand for her wonderful meals. She has faithfully served her church as song leader and pianist for 60 years.
Irene is survived by her husband of 62 years Ruben; five children, Patricia Ann "Pat" (Russ) Hardesty, of Auxvasse, John Ruben (Jane) Edwards, of Middletown, Linda Sue (Gary) Young, of Middletown, Teresa Kay "Terry" (Paul) Hill, of Bowling Green and James Russell "Jim" (Phyllis) Edwards, of Middletown; fourteen grandchildren and spouses, Dan (Samantha) Shepard, Amy (Gabe) Craighead, Clay (Kayanna) Hardesty, Gretchen (Alex) Bame, Jed Edwards, Tabitha (Scott) Craig, Rachel (Jim) Craig, Heather (Jamie) Niemeyer, Matt (Lori) Hill, Jessica (Joel ) Clover, Katie (Andrew) Howard, Tyler (Lauren) Bernard, Olivia Edwards and Alexey Edwards; thirteen great-grandchildren, Laina, Mia and Arch Shepard, Isiah and Alexandra Craighead, Emma and Evan Craig, Lily and Madi Craig, Carson and Blake Hill and Cadence and Myla Clover; brother, Russell E. John, of Huntsville; in addition to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orel and Ruth John.
