  • Elmer Lee Donaldson, 90 of Mexico, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Missouri Veterans' Home.
    A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Brendan Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Porterfield officiating. Visitation is from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Arnold Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
    Elmer was born Aug. 28, 1922 in Monroe County, the son of William Roy and Orpha (Simons) Donaldson. On Nov. 10, 1946 at St. Patrick Church in St. Patrick, Missouri, he married Margie Logsdon.
    Mr. Donaldson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII. He worked for GMNO railroad for over 20 years, then farmed and drove a dump truck, which he loved.
    Elmer was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church and the Forty and Eight.
    He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing cards. Mr. Donaldson loved meeting the guys for coffee at Hardees.
    Survivors include his wife, Marge of the home; his children, Fred (Gay) Donaldson of Mexico, Nancy (Raymond) Fricke of Fulton, Darby Donaldson of Mexico and Darren (Christy) Donaldson of Mexico; six grandchildren, Michael (Dee) Donaldson of Florida, Missy (Warren) Jones of Florida, Crystal (Charlie) Bahr of Lees Summit, Derek (Jean Marie) Fricke of Overland Park, Kansas, Clay Jeffrey of Mexico and Cami Donaldson of Mexico; and five great-grandchildren, Isabelle Donaldson, Addison and Avery Jones and Piper and Tinsley Bahr.
    Elmer was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Michelle Fricke; one great-grandson, Bryson Jones; three brothers, Cy, Walter and Frank Donaldson; and four sisters, Nell Cash, Mary Wilkerson, Fay Donaldson and Edna Sheldon.
