  • Mexico Lady Bulldogs defeated the Hannibal Lady Pirates 15-0 in three innings Thursday night at Gallop field.
    In the first inning Alison Mudd led with a single and then stole second. Laura Fischer then hit a single to advance Mudd to second on the play. Danielle Baumgartner hit a double to score Mudd and Fischer. Victoria Shaw came in as a courtesy runner for Baumgartner and advanced to third on a passed ball. Karen Baker drew a walk and then stole second. A passed ball allowed Shaw to score and Baker to advance to third. Abigail Dick drew a walk and stole second. DJ Aaron reached on an error, and Baker was tagged out at home on the play. Dick scored on a passed ball that also allowed Aaron to advance to second. Back-to-back passed balls allowed Aaron to advance to third and then score. Madison White drew a walk and Ashlee Morton came in as a courtesy runner. Ashlie Woodruff hit a single to advance Morton. Haley Test then hit a three-run homerun. Eight runs scored in the first inning by the Lady Bulldogs.
    Aaron started the second inning by reaching on an error. White was hit by a pitch and Morton came in as a courtesy runner. Woodruff drew a walk to load the bases. Test drew a walk to score Aaron. A passed ball allowed Morton to score. Woodruff scored on a passed ball as did Test. Mudd also scored on a passed ball. Baumgartner hit a single with Sydnee Playter coming in as a courtesy runner. The Lady Bulldogs scored five runs in the second.
    In the third inning Dick hit a single to start the Lady Bulldogs off. Shaw reached on an error. Woodruff hit a single to load the bases. Mudd drew a walk to score Dick. Shaw then scored on a passed ball to end the game.
    Danielle Baumgartner (2-1) pitched for the Lady Bulldogs. She recorded 7 strikeouts, 1 walk and allowed no hits.
    "I was very pleased with how we played. We hit the ball hard and kept our intensity up," stated MHS Coach Christina Gruber.
    Mexico, 2-1 overall and 2-1 in NCMC. They return to action at 9 a.m. Saturday when they host Bowling Green.
    The junior varisty team was also won 5-0.
    Laura Fischer hit a single in the third and Sydnee Playter hit an RBI single. One run scored in the third inning.
    In the fourth inning DJ Aaron hit a single for 2 RBI, Fischer hit a single for 1 RBI and Ashlee Morton hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI. Mexico scored four runs in the fourth inning.
