Ella K. Brooks, 83, of Mexico, MO, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Golden Living Center-Pin Oaks in Mexico.
She was born August 1, 1930 in Eolia, MO, the daughter of John Alexander and Lydia Allean Tolbert Stewart. She married Robert F. Brooks on March 17, 1957 in Jefferson City, MO and he preceded her in death on August 23, 1981.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Earline Penn, Ellen McCormick of Mexico, Kathy (Steve) Brooks-Maness of St. Louis, MO, Roland "Gene" Penn of Manchester, MO, Walter Robert Whitaker Brooks of California and William Henry Whitaker; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Sue Splain of Griggsville and Janet Viola Foster of Texas; two brothers, Edward Leslie Stewart of Pennsylvania and Jessie David Stewart of Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Lee Whitaker; and two brothers, Gilbert Stewart and Edmond "Wes" Stewart.
Mrs. Brooks served as Mayor of Time, IL for eight years from 1981 to 1989. She was employed as a nurse's aide for many years at area nursing homes, including Eastside Health and Rehabilitation in Pittsfield.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, with burial at Douglas Cemetery, near Milton, IL.
