  • Dorothy M. Aussieker, 92 of West Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Mexico, Missouri died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
    A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Des Moines on Saturday, September 14 at 11 a.m. followed by a light lunch reception. She will be intered at a private service at East Lawn Cemetery in Mexico.
    Dorothy was born on July 3, 1921 in St. Louis, the daughter of Samuel and Alma Kraus. On Sept. 20, 1947 she married Elmer Aussieker in St. Louis. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1989. Their son, Keith, also preceded her death in 1970.
    While a resident of Mexico for 45 years, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Past President of the AMC Auxiliary, member of the YMCA, and member of the Mexico Country Club where she played on the women's golf league. Even after moving to Iowa, she became a member and supporter of the Presser Performing Arts Center in Mexico.
    She moved to West Des Moines in May, 1999 to be close to her daughter. Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Jay Semerad of Adel, Iowa, many nephews and nieces and many dear friends. Dorothy loved living at Fairmeadows Village and enjoyed the regular Friday night card games with her friends there. She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, a member of the President's Club at the Walnut Creek YMCA and a Friend of Iowa Public television. Dorothy continued to pursue her passion of golf until the age of 86 at Willow Creek Golf course. She was also a member of the Des Moines Performing Arts Center, where she enjoyed Broadway plays and musicals. Dorothy was devoted to exposing children to the arts.
