  • Bulldogs softball went 2-2 over four games Friday and Saturday to take sixth in the 16 team Jefferson City Tournament. The Bulldogs moved to 6-5 (4-3 NCMC) winning 11-2 over St. Elizabeth and 11-10 over Kirksville. The team had two close losses, falling 1-2 against Jefferson City and 7-13 in a game against Blair Oaks which went into extra innings.
    In Friday's win over St. Elizabeth, junior Danielle Baumgartner hit a 2-run home run as part of a seven run first inning in which the Bulldogs had seven hits including two 2-RBI singles from senior Ashlee Woodruff and junior Alison Mudd.
    The Bulldogs did not score again until the seventh inning when junior Haley Test hit a sacrifice fly to score junior Abby Dick. Sophomore Laura Fischer hit a 2-RBI single, her second hit of the night, and Mudd hit another RBI to give the Bulldogs a 9 run victory.
    Freshman DJ Aaron started the game as pitcher, allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and recording 2 strikeouts. Freshman Kenzie Robnett relieved Aaron in the fourth, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 6.
    Baumgartner had three hits, adding a double and single to her homerun. Junior Karen Baker had three hits for the Bulldogs including a double in the fourth inning. Mudd, Test and senior Victoria Shaw had two hits each and senior Madison White hit a single during the Mexico victory.
    The Bulldogs played a second game Friday, falling to Jefferson City. The lone run came in the sixth inning when Shaw hit a single to score Baker. Baker and Shaw had two hits each against the Jays. Fischer had the only other hit for Mexico, a first inning single.
    Baumgartner pitched during Mexico's second game, recording six strikeouts and allowing just two hits and two walks.
    Mexico bounced back Saturday morning winning 11-10 in an offensive shootout over NCMC rivals Kirksville. Baumgartner was credited with the win, striking out six while walking three and allowing 12 hits.
    Aaron had two homeruns in the Mexico victory, a three-run shot in the third inning and a one-run homerun in the fifth. Baker had three hits and one RBI, Baumgartner had three hits and freshman Sydny Hull hit a two-RBI double acting as pinch hitter. Dick and Mudd had one hit each in the victory.
    Mexico faced Blair Oaks in the Bulldogs' last game of the tournament, falling 11-7 in one extra inning. Baumgartner recorded four strikeouts as the losing pitcher for the Bulldogs.
    Mexico's first run came in the third inning, an RBI on a bases-loaded single from Dick. Shaw hit a double to score two more, giving Mexico three runs in the inning.
    Baker hit a double in the fifth before Blair Oaks walked Dick and Shaw to load the bases. Test drew another walk to score baker before Mudd a 2-RBI single to give the Bulldogs another three run inning.
    Page 2 of 2 - Mexico and Blair Oaks were tied at six going into the extra inning. Aaron hit a single and Shaw had a sacrifice to give the Bulldogs one run, but it wasn't enough to come back against Blair Oaks as the Falcons scored seven.
    The Bulldogs play again tonight at Marshall.
