Beating Boonville

Eighth grade football stayed undefeated Tuesday, beating the Boonville Pirates 22-14 at Hawthorne Heights.
"This game was quite a physical dogfight against a Boonville squad that everyone will want to keep their eyes on in the future," head coach David Okenfuss said. "Turnovers and penalties allowed Boonville to get back into the game in the second half, but we buckled down and fought through the adversity to come away with a hard fought win."
Michael White rushed for 20, 14 and 15 yards to score three touchdowns and secure the Mexico victory. White also converted a pair of two-point conversions for the Bulldogs.
The MMS football players return to the field Tuesday, when they travel to Warrenton.
Seventh grade volleyball improved to 3-0 after defeating Boonville 25-23, 25-12 Tuesday at MMS.
"The girls were a little hesitant going into the first game. Boonville served tough and the girls were caught a little off guard," head coach Amy Boedeker said. "The girls never gave up their fight and ended up winning the first game by two."
The Bulldogs rallied behind a series of eight serves by Raigan Playter to take an early lead in the second game rout of the Pirates.
The eighth graders did not fare as well, losing to the Pirates 17-25, 16-25 to move to 0-2 for the season.
"Despite losing their second match this season, the girls held their heads high and continued to have fun while out on the court," Boedeker said. "The girls saw some tough serves in both games. Despite the tough serves, they stayed with it."
Adria Costley ended the night with two kills and a solo block. Elisabeth Gooch also contributed one kill to the match.
Both teams return to the court Thursday when they travel to Centralia's Chester Boren Middle School.
